Description

5 Dollars silver coin - 2014 Cook Islands - "White Egg" from the series Imperial Egss in Cloisonné. Silver 999/1000, proof quality, limited mintage 2500 pcs.

Cloisonné is a handcraft technique in which gold and silver wires are strung to create individual geometric compartments which are then filled with coloured enamel powder. The enamel is hardened by firing it in an oven and later polished.

The Cloisonné technique is primarily used to decorate pieces of jewellery, bowls, vases, and various other items. This method of artistic design originated in ancient Greece and found its way to China and Japan via the Silk Road. The Cloisonné reached its zenith in the Ming Dynasty in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Enamel design has also been highly appreciated in more recent times, for instance in the Russian tsars court in St. Petersburg. Since eggs were traditionally given as gifts at Easter, Tsar Alexander III commissioned the jeweller Carl Peter Fabergé in 1885 to create an extraordinary jewel egg as a gift for his wife Maria. This masterpiece was so admired, that from then on the Tsar gave his wife a new egg every year. Alexander’s son and successor, Tsar Nicholas II, ordered another 40 imperial eggs from the House of Fabergé before the revolution put an end to this tradition. This new coin issue pays homage to the wonderful and intricate Fabergé designs.

This stunning silver coin from the wonderful series "Imperial Egss in Cloisonné" is delivered with a certificate of authenticity.
